Sligh Furniture Company was established in 1880. At the time the furniture business was highly specialized, where plant might only make headboards for bed, and another, under different ownership, might concentrate on dressers. Still another might make night stands. It was inconvenient, to say the least, for retailers and consumers to purchase all the pieces needed in a bedroom. Sligh Furniture Company was founded on the idea of providing all the furniture pieces needed for the bedroom, in coordinated styles and finishes, from one plant. It was this innovation in furniture production that set the Sligh Furniture Company apart, and in fact transformed the entire industry's approach to home furniture.
Innovation became an unbroken business practice for Sligh. In the 1980s Sligh Furniture pursued a solution for hiding the heaps of cords associated with electronic equipment. The answer was Sligh Corridor line of office furniture which employed a unique cord and accessory rail tunnel to keeps wires and cables out of sight. The concept won first place at NEOCON, the annual business office furniture market.
Starting in 2000, Sligh Furniture Company focused on its response to the huge rise in digital television technologies. After spending a couple of years in all-out research mode, including studying consumer electronics and considering how consumers could get the best use out of their electronics, Sligh released a line of home entertainment furniture with patented designs and superior function and style. Features like the SmartEye infrared remote control reader, the StrongArm television mounting device, and the SmartFan automatic cooling system set Sligh home entertainment furniture ahead of the competition. "With Sligh, technology can be beautiful," said Rob Sligh , the company's chairman. "It's where high design meets high tech."
